John Law Walker

American, 1899 - 1965


John Law Walker was notable American Modern painter, muralist and etcher, active in both California and Arizona, while traveling throughout the country as an accomplished muralist.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Walker moved to America in the 1930s and settled in Burbank, California toward the 1940s. He was actively in throughout the state, of California, where he was a student of Millard Sheets, Clarence Hinkle, and Frank Tolles Chamberlin. He was a member of the California Watercolor Society, the Los Angeles Art Association, and the Santa Monica Art Association.

As a WPA artist, Walker completed mural work in United States Post Offices in Pasadena California and Lockhart, Texas, and at the Treasury Department in Washington D.C. He was also an art teacher at Glendale Junior College in Glendale, Arizona. The artist died in Tucson, Arizona in 1965.
