Constantine Pougialis

American, 1894 - 1985


Constantine Pougialias was born in Xylokastro, Greece in 1894. He immigrated to the United States in 1913, studying at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1916-1922, He was a Professor of Art at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1938-1962. Pougialis exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY, the Whitney Museum of Art, New York, NY, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, the Carnegie Institute, Philadelpha, PA, and the Renaissance Society of the University of Chicago, among others. His work can be found in the collection of the art Institute of Chicago. At the age of 90, Pougialis died in Gloucester, MA in 1985.
