Leroy Turner & Eugene Dana: Professor & Protegée:

Influences of Abstraction Création and the New Bauhaus

October 2nd - October 27th, 2017

In the 1930s, the St. Paul School of Art became a nexus for many artists who later traveled on to study in Chicago at Laszlo Moholy-Nagy's innovative New Bauhaus and Institute of Design (ID). This exhibition explores the work of LeRoy Turner, a noted professor of painting at the St Paul School of Art, and his influence on the artwork of his student and protegée, Eugene Dana. LeRoy Turner was one of only a few American artists invited to join the prestigious Abstraction Création group in Paris. Turner's influence on Dana and other student artists brought forth a unique talent from St. Paul to the New Bauhaus/ ID in Chicago.
