Peter Diem

American, 1890 - 1956


Peter Diem came to the U.S. from Switzerland in 1921. Born and educated in Stuttgart, Germany, he won the lauded Rhineland Prize and exhibited throughout Europe. In the U.S., Diem exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Art in Chicago. He also worked as a set designer, interior designer and taught at the National Academy of Art and Art Institute of Chicago. Diem did mural work for Chicago’s famed Berghoff and Old Heidelberg restaurants. He was also one of the Tree Studio artists. He died in Chicago in 1956 at the age of 66.
