Gay Dickerson

American, 1928 - 1996


Gay Dickerson was born in Greensboro, NC in 1928. She began painting at the age of 28, studying for two years with Karl Metzler in Baltimore. She exhibited at the Peale Museum in Baltimore and at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. Dickerson was also an executive with the YWCA in Baltimore, MD and in White Plains & Westchester, NY. In 1983, Dickerson retired from the YWCA and moved to Provincetown, so she could paint, full-time. In 1996, at the age of 68, Dickerson died in Eastham, MA.
